Fort Jackson Basic Training Lift Station
B.L. Harbert International
Fort Jackson, South Carolina
Basic Training Complex II and III at Fort Jackson, South Carolina required the construction of five (5) new barracks, a Dining Facility (DFAC) and a Battalion Headquarter (BNHQ) building. As a part of this project, a sanitary sewer pumping station was required to transport the waste flow generated at the new facilities to the existing sanitary sewerage system. The lift station was designed for harsh duty with a mechanical grinder installed upstream of the wet well to macerate the solids prior to entering the pump station wet well and a telemetry system compatible with the existing base system. The lift station and force main have a design capacity of 1,200 gallons per minute. The force main was installed in an environmentally sensitive area which required an aerial pipe bridge spanning a delineated wetland.
This lift station is a triplex pump station with two (2) pumps operating in tandem to provide the peak flow rate. The design and permitting components required approval by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the utility owner (Palmetto States Utility Services).
